To determine the type of rear sprocket system you have, find the tool fitting on the sprocket set. Spin the sprockets backwards. If the fitting spins with the cogs, it is a cassette system. If the tool fitting does not spin with the cogs, it is a freewheel system. To determine the type of freewheel tool needed, count the number of splines in the tool fitting. If there are 12 splines, and the brand of freewheel is not Falcon, the correct tool is the FR-1.3. In addition to the correct tool, you will also need a method of driving it such as the Park Tool FRW-1 wrench, an adjustable wrench, or a 1" socket. Since our origins in the back of a bike shop in 1963, it has been Park Tool's sole mission to design and manufacture high-quality tools that empower mechanics and riders of all skill levels to service their bicycles. Just like our other 500+ tools, our cassette and freewheel tools are a product of our decades of experience and expertise in the industry, in the shop and on the trail. The Park Tool Freewheel Remover is designed for common thread-on 5 to 10-speed freewheels, including Shimano, Sachs Aris, Sun Race, and DNP Epoch. You'll simply need an adjustable wrench or bench vise to remove and install freewheels, thanks to the tool's one-inch hexagonal base. It features 12 splines and a 22. 6-millimeter diameter, complete with an enlarged thru-hole to accommodate 14-millimeter axles. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
