In 2011, I set out on a backpacking trip with five of my friends starting from Ojai, California. We all left our tents behind and took hammocks instead. It was my first time hammock camping. It was also my last time tent camping. When I set out to make my own hammock in 2015, I knew what I liked and what I didn’t like. As a backpacker, weight and size are important to me, which is why our hammocks weigh less than a pound are pack down to the size of a small grapefruit. Equally important was comfort, since I do a lot of overnighters. Our crinkle treatment makes our fabric super-soft to the touch. At 10 feet long, we’re a foot longer than most hammocks which makes it feel so much more roomy. It’s like flying first class instead of coach. With careful design and component choices, we ended up with a hammock that’s unbelievably comfortable, yet small and light enough to take anywhere. Enjoy, Mike The generous 10 feet of length and plush nylon fabric with crinkle treatment make this the most comfortable hammock tested by Wirecutter (a New York Times company) in 2017. Weighs in at under a pound (before suspension kit), thanks to all-aluminum carabiners. Using the attached stuff sack and compression strap, it packs down to the size of a small grapefruit, making it ideal for backpacking or just taking with you anywhere you go. Premium features like our tear-resistant 70D diamond ripstop nylon, triple-stitched seams, nautical-grade rope, and 10-kN-rated carabiners make this hammock stronger than most on the market.
