Make sure to inspect and clean the fuel tank as well. Clogged filters are a leading cause of premature pump failure, so replace the fuel filter if it is not internal to the assembly. Internal filters are not serviced separately. High fuel pressure can often be attributed to a fuel pressure regulator issue or a restriction in the return line. The engine may run rich or fuel trims may be elevated. Low fuel pressure can be caused by insufficient power or ground to the fuel pump or a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator. Contamination in the system can cause restrictions to the fuel feed lines, fuel strainer, or fuel filter. No pressure can be due to a faulty relay, fuse, wire harness, or oil pressure switch, tripped inertia switch, or dried test fluid.
