Sodium Hydroxide, Caustic Soda, NaOH, Lye, substitute for Red Devil Lye Unlike most of our competitors who sell technical grade, Essential Depot's lye is Food Grade (lower in impurities) and proudly made in the U.S.A. FOOD GRADE, USP, KOSHER, Halal Acceptable, non-GMO, does not contribute to BSE, not animal tested since 1990. SDS and/or COA available upon request. All products are shipped in easy-to-store and easy-to-use resealable containers. Each container is BPA Free HDPE with a resealable child resistant cap. Shipped 2 lbs of Lye per container. THIS SHIPMENT IS CLASSIFIED AS ORM-D CONSUMER COMMODITY. We are the FIRST as well as the ONLY SELLER whose PACKAGING, LABELING, and PRODUCT has been APPROVED by the U.S. CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION ("CPSC"). Our label complies with all federal regulations, our containers (including the caps) comply with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements, and the product itself actually exceeded CPSC's third party independent laboratory testing standards. WE ARE A CERTIFIED SHIPPER AND SEND THIS PRODUCT IN SAFE AND LEGAL PACKAGING BY A LEGAL CARRIER. This product is designated by FDA as a food additive Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) when used in accordance with good manufacturing practices (21 CFR 184.1763). Food Chemical Codex listed, it is specifically approved for use per the following FDA citations: 21 CFR 172.892 (Food Starch-Modified, modified up to 1%), 21 CFR173.310 (Boiler Water Additive), 21 CFR 177.1600 (Polyethylene Resins, Carboxyl Modified). It is also cleared for reaction with fatty triglycerides and their fatty acid, alcohol, or dimer derivatives listed in 21 CFR 176.210 to form soaps under 21 CFR 175.105 (Adhesives), 21 CFR 176.210 (Defoaming Agents used in the manufacture of paper and paperboard), and 21 CFR 178.3120 (Animal Glue). Much better than the usual technical grade lye. Specifically manufactured into evenly-sized micro pels of pure Sodium Hydroxide. Evenly-sized micro pels mean an equal saturation of water for each pel. Equal saturation of each sodium hydroxide particle (the micro pel) means consistent saponification, whether that saponification be in soap making, pretzels, hominy, or any other application. We compiled this information over the last 10 years. Use caution when purchasing drain openers from other suppliers. Most drain openers contain other chemicals in addition to the lye. Essential Depot's lye does not. Those other added chemicals are very undesirable and potentially harmful when used in making soap. COLOR: WhiteFORM: Evenly Sized Micro Beads/Pels, microcrystalline structure, anhydrous, hygroscopic (attracting moisture), deliquescent (dissolving in moisture absorbed from the atmosphere), reacts with carbon dioxide in the air to form sodium carbonate.CHEMICAL/PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: The remarkable uniformity of the tiny beads, close to ¾ millimeter diameter, offers superior properties: little or no dust, excellent flow properties, uniform size, excellent blending characteristics, structural strength, high bulk density and low moisture pickup, resulting in less caking or lumping. Average diameter of ¾ millimeter, corresponding to 25 mesh. The spherical shape enables beads to roll and flow easily while producing far less dust than flakes, has a minimum surface area per pound, minimizes moisture pickup. Freedom from dust on the bead surface also slows moisture pickup. The reactivity is as a strong alkali.ODOR/AROMA: Odorless in its dry state.NUTRITION: No nutritional value.KOSHER: Does not come into contact with or contain any animal by-products, animal fats, or animal products, including the equipment used in its’ manufacture, nor does it contain chemical additives that are organic in nature. According to the current policies of the Orthodox Union (OU) caustic soda is acceptable for use in Kosher-related activities without Kosher certification.HALAL: Not certified, however, it does not contain alcohol, natural L-cysteine extracted from hair or feathers, animal fats/extracts, blood, blood plasma, or meat. Alcohol is not used as processing aid.
