Sour Punch products start out similar to any other candy, with a simple mix of sugar, flour, corn syrup and water in giant kettles. Each kettle batch weighs around 1,500 pounds. The ingredients are mixed to a perfect consistency and the color and flavor is added. The batch heats up to 170 degrees and pumped into a cooker to remove excess moisture. Once the moisture level is correct, the candy gets extruded out onto an incline belt. From there, the candy takes a ride through a cooling tunnel, and chilled down to around 70 degrees. Next, the candy is steamed and sandblasted with our mouth-puckering sweet and sour signature blend. After the sweet and sour shower, the candy is cut to length and packaged for delivery. As one of the first brands to enter the U.S. sour candy market in 1990, Sour Punch candy began with sour, fruit-flavored straws.
