Every soccer and futsal from SELECT is based on the 32-panel design. The desire was to create the most reliable ball with the most predictable, straight flight and bounce neither too high nor too low. All of our balls today are still based on Eigil Nielsen's original invention of the 32-panel ball construction, as we never compromise on quality, playability or durability. A soccer ball with optimum roundness is essential to obtain reliable aerodynamics and superior playbility. The 2019 Diamond looks the same but has one new feature. Replacing the latex bladder is a butyl bladder for better air retention. The Diamond is made of a strong and soft TPU film with a laminated TPE foam for an extra soft touch. This construction makes for a great practice or match ball at the high school and club level. The 32 panel design was developed in 1962 by Eigil Nielsen, the founder of Select. This construction, 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons, is still used today as it provides an optimal roundness which is essential to obtain reliable aerodynamics, a straight flight and a controlled bounce. The Diamond was awarded FIFA IMS certification IMS 365.A1Q for its weight, water absorption, circumference, roundness, loss of pressure and bounce. By meeting these requirements the Diamond is eligible for use in FIFA Matches and Confederation Matches. Only size 5 balls are IMS certified By 'erasing' the white lines with a permanent marker the player is able to easily recognize their ball during training.
