Traditional tanneries use a ton of water and leave a lot of chemicals after the fact. So we source our leather from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group. They use a closed-loop system that reduces water use and energy use—and completely eliminates wastewater pollution. PFCs (perfluorinated chemicals) are used everywhere in the outdoor industry. They create a dense coating on fabrics; water beads up instead of soaking in. They’re durable, and they do a good job. However, they’re also suspected carcinogens and break down very slowly. So we switched to nontoxic, alternatives that are just as effective, yet safe. Today we are over 95% PFC-free. With our updated Terradora waterproof hiking boots, we kept all the things women love about the original and added more performance, more comfort, and more traction—so you can go even further and stay out there longer. Made with waterproof, lightweight mesh, the KEEN Women’s Terradora 2 Mid Height Waterproof Hiking Boot is built off a women’s specific foot form for a narrower fit.
