As a student in California, in 2011, Tough’s founder, James, struggled to afford gear to surf and explore. Fed up with expensive products, James knew there was a better way. He discovered that he could provide customers with quality gear at half the cost by cutting out retail middlemen, advertising, and pro sponsorships.
