Use Drops to Soften the Earwax First Often times flushing is used as a last resort when cotton swabs are ineffective. Unfortunately, the use of cotton swabs compacts the blockages, and makes it difficult for the ear cleaner solution to get around it. A much better approach is to use ear drops (like those included with this kit) to soften the wax prior to irrigation. Method 1 - Through the Blockage Once the drops have softened the earwax, it is time to irrigate. Ideally you want to push the tip past the blockage. This way water is easily pushed past the blockage, ejecting it. Method 2 - Around the Blockage If you can't push the tip through/past the blockage, try spraying solution at the edge of the earwax. This will have the effect of getting water behind the blockage, and ejecting it.
