The product is specifically designed to measure circumferences. In the photo above, the casing is included in the measurement. To make the calculation easier, let's imagine the arm's circumference was 15 inches. If the tape started at 0, the measurement would show approximately 13, because the casing portion is about 2 inches as you see in the next photo. If the tape started at about 2 inches, the measurement would show 15 inches, making it possible to obtain the correct figure without cumbersome mental calculations. This is why our tape measure starts at about 2 inches.
