I didn't buy this had for the warmth, I bought it for my son to dress up in. He has had lots of fun with it and has even worn it outside a few times. He didn't complain that it wasn't warm enough, but I didn't specifically ask because he thinks he is a polar bear and doesn't need to dress warm to go outside! I love this hat. Combine with crazy glasses/goggles and a real or fake gas mask for a disturbing Halloween costume! Snowblowing on the Tug Hill Plateau in northern NY can be miserable, blizzardy, windy and really really cold. For years I came back into the house with icicles hanging off my beard, mustache, my scarf frozen to my coat AND my beard. Silly as this thing looks, my face never even got cold through the entire winter. It was a bit large but that let me wear my watchcap underneath, and a hood over.
