The Kidde Smoke Detector, 9V Battery Powered, Photoelectric Smoke Alarm, Battery Included, model P9050, features photoelectric sensor technology to protect you and your family from the dangers of smoke and fire. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms; Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed in your home. Operating on a single, 9-volt alkaline battery, the smoke detector provides reliable detection of smoke or fire, even during power outages. The fire alarm is easy to install, with no wiring required. To ensure proper installation, the test/silence button will electronically simulate the presence of smoke and cause the 85-decibel alarm to sound. This button can also be used to activate the Hush feature, which silences the smoke alarm unit for approximately 7 minutes in cases of nuisance alarms.
