The most effective way to keep them off the face is to block them completely. A good fly mask protects against dust, dirt and debris. Horses recovering from an eye injury will especially benefit from wearing a mask. Your horse’s personal environment will influence your choice of repellents and help determine whether a spray, spot-on or wipe-on is best. In some cases, a combination will be helpful. To complete the No Fly Zone, your horse should be on a feed-through fly control product such as SimpliFly from Farnam. The active ingredients work in the horse’s manure, not the horse’s body itself. When it comes to fly control, horse owners have more options than ever before. However, there's no single solution that will completely banish every pest, it's just not that easy! In order to fight flies on all fronts we recommend using our three-stage approach to fly control, BLOCK - REPEL - REDUCE, which means using different products for specific scenarios. Farnam SimpliFly Feed Through Fly Control with LarvaStop fly growth regulator breaks the fly life cycle by preventing stable and house fly larvae from developing into mature adults. SimpliFly reduces house and stable fly populations when added to your horse's feed from early spring until cold weather hits. How it works: Diflubenzuron is the insect growth regulator/active ingredient in this feed-through fly control product. It is not absorbed by the horse's gastrointestinal tract, but it is excreted in the horse's manure where it stops the development of house and stable fly larvae. When horses are continually treated, stable and house fly larvae can’t develop in the manure, so you’ll see a significant reduction in the fly population. The 3.75 lb. container is a 60-day supply for one horse, the 10 lb. container is a 160-day supply for one horse, and the 20lb. the container is a 320-day supply for one horse. Use SimpliFly Feed-Thru Fly Control with your favorite Farnam fly spray for horses to control other insect pests like gnats, mosquitoes, and ticks! There is no single solution when it comes to fly and insect control. Bugs don't fly with Farnam, your partner in horse care. DO NOT USE ON HORSES INTENDED FOR SLAUGHTER Feed the recommended dosage of Farnam® SimpliFly® Feed-Thru Fly Control to each horse separately to make certain he receives his full portion. This product should be fed top dressed on grain or mixed with the horse's total ration to provide 6.8 mg of diflubenzuron per 100 lbs. of body weight. For an occasional finicky eater who does not accept new feeds readily, mix this product with sweet feed or grain ration. Start feeding Farnam® SimpliFly® Feed-Thru Fly Control early in the spring before flies begin to appear and continue feeding throughout the summer and into the fall until cold weather restricts fly activity. This product contains an insect growth regulator which prevents the development of house flies and stable flies in the manure of treated horses, but is not effective against existing adult flies. In some cases, supplemental fly control measures may be needed in and around paddocks and buildings to control adult house and stable flies which can breed in other decaying vegetable matter or silage on premises, or that migrate in from other areas. Farnam® SimpliFly® Feed-Thru Fly Control should be used as part of an integrated pest management program aimed at reducing fly populations in the horse's environment.
