Pokémon trainers might want to catch this limited-edition Pokémon Game Boy Color. This unit comes in a color-changing gold and silver case emblazoned with pictures of Pikachu, Jigglypuff, and Togepi in action. It's Pokémon outside, but pure Game Boy Color inside, so you can play any of the other 500-plus games available for the system. The Game Boy is that small, colorful handheld video game system clutched by folks playing it everywhere. Popular among a wide age group, including a good number of airport-lounging power executives, the Game Boy has a true hard-core fan base comprising millions (and millions) of kids around the globe.Nintendo's Game Boy debuted in the late '80s and has since sold more than 60 million units worldwide, far outpacing other handheld game systems. With a catalog of more than 1,000 games and dozens of add-on peripherals, Game Boy is a monster of a handheld game system, and a remarkably affordable one at that. Early March 1998 brought the release of the Game Boy Color system, an upgraded version of the original. It is equipped with an 8-bit CPU, doubling the original Game Boy's computing power. The small LCD screen can display up to 56 colors simultaneously (out of a 32,000-color palette), delivered via boosted video processing memory that provides remarkably sharp and vibrant graphics. The hundreds of available games vary from tremendously compelling to instantly forgettable. Quality or not, the entire library of games designed for the original system is playable on Game Boy Color, but buyers should note that not all Game Boy Color games will work on the original Game Boy system. The Game Boy Color system is available in an exotic array of colors andspecial editions. Accessories and add-on peripherals abound, enhancing theplaying experience with vibrating feedback to in-game bumps and crashes, extra battery power, and even a clever camera package that allows playersto capture, tweak, and print images. Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition is a great way for new Pokemon Trainers to enter the Pokemon universe, and it gives experienced Trainers a new challenge in their quest to become the world's greatest Pokemon Trainer. The major innovation in Pokemon Yellow is the starring role of Pikachu. You start the game with a Pikachu, which is the only one in the game. If you place Pikachu in your party, it will follow you around. Pikachu's mood will change depending on how you've been treating it. Other Differences between Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Red or Blue: Pokemon Yellow is compatible with the Game Boy Printer. For example, you can print out pictures from your Pokedex. Pokemon Yellow features all-new pictures of all Pokemon found in Red or Blue. Your Pikachu can evolve into Raichu, but must first be traded to Pokemon Red, Blue, Gold or Silver. You can enter a new building just below Fuchsia City and, if you have a Surfing Pikachu, play a side-scrolling minigame. This game is also called Surfing Pikachu. Your goal is to perform as many radical stunts as possible. You can print out your high score. Gnarly! Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Ekans, Arbok, Raichu, Meowth, Persian, Koffing, Weezing, Jynx, Electabuzz and Magmar are not found in Yellow. You must trade for them. Other Pokemon are found in different areas. On a Game Boy Color, the enhanced colors in Pokemon Yellow are better than the colors seen in Pokemon Red and Blue. However, the opening sequence is the only portion of the game that uses GBC's full 56 colors. Like Pokemon Red and Blue, Pokemon Yellow is fully compatible with monochromatic Game Boy systems. Jesse and James, the bumbling Team Rocket duo, are found several times through normal game play. Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle can all be found in Yellow. To receive them, you must complete special tasks. Gym Trainers use different strategies and are more difficult to defeat. The Unknown Dungeon is different in this version. With two Pokemon Yellow Game Paks, two Game Boy systems and a Game Link cable, you and a friend can enter three new battle modes: Pika Cup, Poke Cup and Petite Cup.
