Many Insect Lore Butterfly kits include live caterpillars that ship as soon as the order is placed. This Butterfly Garden does not come with live caterpillars, but instead allows you to claim them online, giving you the flexibility to start raising your butterflies when you are ready. This makes the kit a perfect choice to give as a gift, and also gives owners the option to wait for the right season or temperature to raise butterflies. As soon as you are ready for your caterpillars, simply go online and claim your baby caterpillars to have them shipped live to your door. Once you have received your cup with five live baby caterpillars, they will eat and grow inside of it until it is time for them to create their chrysalides (commonly referred to as cocoons). The inside of the cup includes all the nutritious food that caterpillars need. Place the cup in a safe place away from direct sunlight. The caterpillars will remain in the cup and will eat, spin silk, and grow to ten times their original size! After seven to ten days they will hang upside down and harden into chrysalides. Insect Lore guarantees that three out of five caterpillars will become butterflies. When the caterpillars have reached the chrysalis stage, you can place the lid from the cup in the deluxe chrysalis station and place it inside of the specially designed mesh garden. It will take about seven to ten more days for them to complete the transformation to adult butterflies. Once your butterflies have emerged from the chrysalides, place fresh flowers in the habitat for your butterflies to rest on. Use the feeding dropper included to drip sugar water, or nectar, on the flowers. Enjoy your butterflies for a few days, let them go, and watch in excitement as they continue their amazing life cycle.
